Just a quick update on what I've been up to lately.
So, as always, I have several irons in the fire. I'm working on book 8 of The Witch Squad series currently. I'm maybe about 35% of the way done with the first draft and going as fast as I can, as I have a big trip coming up in April and I really wanted to have the book to my editor before I left on the trip. We'll see. Life has really gotten in the way of writing the last few months.
It started with my youngest son (one of my twins) getting that nasty flu that was all over the news. He was really sick for a week, had to get IV fluids and all of that. He's already underweight and small for his age, so when he gets sick I get the most worried. Then I got a touch of the flu and was down for two days myself and then of all things, I threw my back out! I'd never done that before. It's horrible!! It took me about three days to finally walk with a straight back. Getting older is for the birds.
Then my mother-in-law began to have some "episodes" and came to stay with us for about three weeks. I became her official doctor taker while we tried to figure out what was happening, which really put a crimp in writing.
On top of that, we've had a busy run of birthdays - my daughter turned 18 in January, my oldest step-daughter turned 25 in February, the twins turned 12 in March, my youngest step-daughter turned 21 two days after the twins and my husband has his big 5-0 this week! YIKES! It's been birthday after birthday - which as many parents know, makes for lots of family dinners, cleaning, planning, etc. etc.
The daughter that turned 18 is graduating this year, so I've been planning for a graduation getting her pictures all put together, plus she's had several college visits, and the college she's picked is six hours away, so lots of driving. And then this week I took Friday off to make a special meal for and went to visit my oldest son (19) who is in college two hours away.
Then in April, we have a trip to Houston planned to go to my youngest cousin's wedding. (And we're driving! It's 1000 miles one way. Yikes!) While we're down there, we're going to fly to Cancun for my husband's 50th birthday. I'd gotten one of those tempting all-inclusive email offers that I couldn't pass up, and I figured I needed to do something special for a special man's special day! Sunday night we drive back and that Monday night my daughter is in a production of Seussical the Musical at her high school and that's the very last performance! I can't miss it! It's her first and only play, so it's a MUST SEE EVENT, we'll drive non-stop if we have to! :)
Then graduation, Mother's day, school gets out, and baseball and softball season start. Busy busy busy. The work of a mother is never done. And being a work-at-home mom is doubly difficult as to many others from the outside looking in, it looks as if I don't work. I just stay home all day. :) But we know the truth thought, right?
As for work.... In addition to getting book 8 out, I have also been working on getting Book 5's audiobook done and the first audiobook in the Coffee Coven series is also almost ready for release. Plus, I'm starting a new series under a new pen name. It's completely different than the paranormal books I currently write, so I'll be keeping them separated as I know many of my readers won't like those. (Sorry!) Anyway, I wrote the first book in that series in January, and about 30% of the second book in February, but abandoned that to get going on the next Witch Squad book as I finally felt like I had a plot forming in my head and it was TIME!
Anyway, lots of love to you all. I've got the best readers out there and as always, I appreciate each and every one of you! Sorry for the long post, I felt like you all deserved to know what was taking me so long to get the next book out! :)
