Just a quick update on what I've been up to lately.
So, as always, I have several irons in the fire. I'm working on book 8 of The Witch Squad series currently. I'm maybe about 35% of the way done with the first draft and going as fast as I can, as I have a big trip coming up in April and I really wanted to have the book to my editor before I left on the trip. We'll see. Life has really gotten in the way of writing the last few months.
It started with my youngest son (one of my twins) getting that nasty flu that was all over the news. He was really sick for a week, had to get IV fluids and all of that. He's already underweight and small for his age, so when he gets sick I get the most worried. Then I got a touch of the flu and was down for two days myself and then of all things, I threw my back out! I'd never done that before. It's horrible!! It took me about three days to finally walk with a straight back. Getting older is for the birds.
Then my mother-in-law began to have some "episodes" and came to stay with us for about three weeks. I became her official doctor taker while we tried to figure out what was happening, which really put a crimp in writing.
On top of that, we've had a busy run of birthdays - my daughter turned 18 in January, my oldest step-daughter turned 25 in February, the twins turned 12 in March, my youngest step-daughter turned 21 two days after the twins and my husband has his big 5-0 this week! YIKES! It's been birthday after birthday - which as many parents know, makes for lots of family dinners, cleaning, planning, etc. etc.
The daughter that turned 18 is graduating this year, so I've been planning for a graduation getting her pictures all put together, plus she's had several college visits, and the college she's picked is six hours away, so lots of driving. And then this week I took Friday off to make a special meal for and went to visit my oldest son (19) who is in college two hours away.
Then in April, we have a trip to Houston planned to go to my youngest cousin's wedding. (And we're driving! It's 1000 miles one way. Yikes!) While we're down there, we're going to fly to Cancun for my husband's 50th birthday. I'd gotten one of those tempting all-inclusive email offers that I couldn't pass up, and I figured I needed to do something special for a special man's special day! Sunday night we drive back and that Monday night my daughter is in a production of Seussical the Musical at her high school and that's the very last performance! I can't miss it! It's her first and only play, so it's a MUST SEE EVENT, we'll drive non-stop if we have to! :)
Then graduation, Mother's day, school gets out, and baseball and softball season start. Busy busy busy. The work of a mother is never done. And being a work-at-home mom is doubly difficult as to many others from the outside looking in, it looks as if I don't work. I just stay home all day. :) But we know the truth thought, right?
As for work.... In addition to getting book 8 out, I have also been working on getting Book 5's audiobook done and the first audiobook in the Coffee Coven series is also almost ready for release. Plus, I'm starting a new series under a new pen name. It's completely different than the paranormal books I currently write, so I'll be keeping them separated as I know many of my readers won't like those. (Sorry!) Anyway, I wrote the first book in that series in January, and about 30% of the second book in February, but abandoned that to get going on the next Witch Squad book as I finally felt like I had a plot forming in my head and it was TIME!
Anyway, lots of love to you all. I've got the best readers out there and as always, I appreciate each and every one of you! Sorry for the long post, I felt like you all deserved to know what was taking me so long to get the next book out! :)
So I finished writing all the words today and headed to my little home gym for a quick treadmill session. While wogging (walk/jogging), of course I had to watch last night's 300th episode of Grey's Anatomy and OMG did it give me feels for days!!
Raise your hands if you're a Grey's Anatomy fan... yeah, me too. My 17 yo daughter and I are known for our Grey's nights. We literally binge watched all the seasons together on Netflix a few years ago and have re-watched the whole thing at least twice since then. Last year for Christmas I even got her a "It's a Beautiful Day to Save Lives" t-shirt because she still cries every time anyone mentions Derek Shepherd (and she cried when she got the t-shirt.)
Anywho....so if you haven't watched the episode yet, you can stop here if you don't want a spoiler, but for the 300th episode they had George, Christina, and George dopplegangers on and it was totally flipping out Mer and Karev. I'm not even gonna lie. I cried when Cleo "Christina" begged Mer to treat her like her friend as they were wheeling her into surgery. Ugh, the feels. I texted my daughter the ENTIRE time I was on the treadmill telling her how much I was crying too.
So, I'm the shower and for some weird reason I got to thinking about it and there were the 5 OG members of Grey's interns and there are 5 Witch Squad members. We all know that the Witch Squad girls watch Grey's anatomy. Right? They watch the Bachelor too. (Which I'm also a huge fan of.... but we'll save that for Ari's season in January, k?) Anyway, so in the shower I was trying to figure out who the Witch Squad would match up to on the Grey's Anatomy cast and this is what I came up with.
Obvs. Mer and Mercy because well, they're the narrators. They both have a somewhat gloomy disposition and yet they are pretty much liked by all. Also umm, they both have the same first three letters of their name, I just now noticed. I SWEAR that wasn't intentional.
Okay, so who would Jax be? Oh gosh, FOR SURE Izzie Stevens, right? I mean perky, bubbly, sweet. Right? She's got to be Izzie.
So then we have Alba. I'm thinking Alba has got to be Christina, I mean, don't you think? Blistery personalities. A bit of a Debbie Downer at times? Yup, she's dead ringer.
Then there's Karev, who, back in the day, was a bit of man whore if we're being real, right? I think he's got to be Holly. I mean we haven't seen much out of Holly, but if there was going to be a loose one in the group, I think it would have to be Holly.
Who do we have left? Oh, George and Sweets! I think we could definitely put those two in the same category. They're both lovable, but sometimes people kind of forget about them and they really don't stand up for themselves very well.
So there we have it - my super analytical (not so much) scientific (yeah right) comparison between the OG Grey's interns and the cast of The Witch Squad.
Now....tell me which Grey's member you miss (or still love) the most in the comments OR tell me Witch Squad member you'd like to hear more about in future books! :)
Happy November all! :)
I thought I'd start off the month with a new addition to my website...a blog. Okay, to be honest, I don't want this to be called a "blog" per se because to me, bloggers write on their blogs every day or at least on a schedule. I'm not sure I have time to commit to that as I'm constantly writing to bring you new books, BUT I do see the need to keep all of my lovely readers updated on what I'm working on... SO with that in mind... here we go!
Recently I signed on to participate in a couple of multi-author anthologies. The first of which releases tomorrow. It's called Spells and Jinglebells and it features some of my really great author friends and I think you're going to LOVE the stories. Plus it's at a great price (only 99 cents AND in Kindle Unlimited.) How can you go wrong, right?! We have a Facebook page set up if you'd like more information. We also have a contest so after you've read the stories, you can enter the contest.
So, the short story I wrote for the anthology is called Deal or Snow Deal. It's the prequel to a brand new series, The Mystic Snow Globe Mystery Series. The series has some magic, but it's not quite like a witch cozy. It's more like a traditional cozy with elements of magic sprinkled in. It's also got more romance sprinkled in. (No inappropriate parts, I swear! Even though the opening paragraph might make you think there is going to be inappropriate parts, there really aren't any, lol.) The first novel in the series, Snow Cold Case, is going to go up for preorder soon. I am sending it to my editor this week and once it's back I'll get it live. (P.S. Once you've had a chance to look at those covers - tell me what you think! I hired an AMAZING artist to do them and I think he did a fabulous job!)
My audiobook narrator, Lisa Cordileone, is currently finishing up the audiobook for Book 4, Witch Pie, in my Witch Squad series. Look for that on sale this month. If you haven't read it yet, Witch Pie is a Thanksgiving themed book in my series and Lisa is the most amazingly talented narrator, so it's even more fun to listen to her read it.
Also, this month. Books 3 & 4 in my Witch Squad series will come out of Kindle Unlimited. Book 3 - Witch Degrees of Separation comes out on November 10th (so if you want to read it in Kindle Unlimited, grab it by today - November 9th). They will both still be available for sale on Amazon, but they'll also be available for sale on Barnes & Noble, Kobo, iBooks, Google Play, and more places. Yay! :)
Once I'm done with Snow Cold Case (which I'm almost done with) I've told myself I'm going to take a day or two to clean my house. You just can't imagine how much you let things go when you hide away in the writing cave all day. :) My bathrooms need scrubbed. My 11 yo son's room is a disaster and needs some serious attention. Everywhere I look is dusty. Ugh....house cleaning comes next. THEN I am going to start on the next Coffee Coven book! YAY! I can't wait. I already miss Hazel, Gwyn, Loni, Phyllis, and Char and I'm pretty sure I know what happens next which makes me extra excited to get started!
THEN I will start work on the next Witch Squad book. I'm trying to go in chronological order of what's happening in Aspen Falls so the two series can cross over once in awhile and we can see some of the girls from the Witch Squad in the Coffee Coven and vice versa. I think it will make both series more fun, don't you?
Okay, whew! That was a lot! I'm sure future posts won't be quite so long! lol Let me know in the comments what you're most looking forward to reading in the future!
